Course Information
Medical schools desire students with a broad range of academic interests, pre-medical students may major in any department or division—the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences—as they prepare for medical school as long as they complete several courses that medical schools require such as organic chemistry and introductory biology.
Internships
Many of our majors are interested in health professions such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and physical therapy. Students seriously thinking about applying to professional schools do some type of internship, shadowing, or volunteer work. As a result, our majors graduate having observed and worked with medical professionals in hospital settings, clinics, and private practice.
Even our students considering other paths outside of direct patient contact have had amazing experiences in venues such as:
-
Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office
-
Polk County Health Department
-
Lowry Park Zoo
-
Mote Marine Laboratory
-
Conservancy of Southwest Florida
-
Reedy Creek Improvement District
-
