Seargeant First Class Daniel Rock enlisted in the Florida National Guard in December 1995. His first assignment was with Alpha Battery 2nd Battalion 116th Field Artillery as a Radio Telephone Operator. He graduated from Florida Technical College with an Associate of Science degree in Computer Aided Drafting.
In 2001 Seargeant First Class Rock was selected by the Battery Commander to be the Fire Direction NCO as a Specialist, E-4. In 2002 he was promoted to Sergeant E-5 to fulfill this duty assignment. While serving in this assignment Sergeant First Class Rock received the Army Commendation Medal for his performance as a section chief.
Sergeant First Class Rock was promoted in 2003 to Staff Sergeant E-6, where he continued to be the Fire Direction NCO. In 2004 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion 116th Field Artillery as a Squad Leader. While deployed as a SECFOR Squad Leader, he was selected by his Platoon Leadership to be the SECFOR NCOIC of Camp Clark, Afghanistan while it was under construction receiving the Army Commendation Medal for his service. In 2009 Sergeant First Class Rock was put on ADOS orders to assist Alpha Battery 2nd Battalion 116th Field Artillery in training and preparaton for a deployment to Kuwait in 2010. While deployed as a SECFOR Squad Leader, Sergeant First Class Rock was selected by the Battery Commander to assume the position of Platoon Sergeant of a Platoon in need of discipline and order. In 2010, he was promoted to Sergeant First Class, two weeks later he was responsible for planning and supervising a Theater Resupply Mission with exceptional results. For his exceptional service while deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Sergeant First Class Rock's formal military schools include: Basic Combat Training (1996), Cannon Fire Direction Specialist AIT (1997), Primary Leadership Development Course (2002), Field Artillery Automated Tactical Data Systems Specialist Course (2004, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course PH 1, II, III (2008), Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course PH 1, II (2008), Cannon Crewmember Course (2009), Air Assault Course (2009). Sergeant First Class Rock's personal decorations include Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ 1OLC, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/ 3 OLC, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ 1 Service Star, Global Ware on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global Ware on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ Bronze Hour Glass and "M" Device.
Sergeant First Class Rock is originally from Browns Mills, New Jersey. He and his wife reside in Auburndale where they enjoy the beach, amusement parks, and spending time with their family.
