James Byrd, Ph.D.
Dean of Arts & Sciences, Professor of Chemistry
"I enjoy showing students the beautiful symmetry of the chemical world, how to use chemical techniques to understand things too small to be seen. It is important that students understand the connections between the scientific world and all of the arts and humanities so that they not only understand the science, but the impact that science has upon humanity."
Dr. Byrd is Dean of Arts and Sciences at Florida Southern College. He came to the college after 15 years of teaching and administration at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Prior to that he was a full-time researcher at Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in Savannah.
