Shawn Hedman, Ph.D.
Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics
"I believe mathematics is for everyone. Mathematics is empowering and enlightening. Mathematics challenges intuition and develops logical and critical thinking skills that are valuable for careers in any field. Because I value mathematics, I put much effort into teaching mathematics and take much satisfaction from my students' success and appreciation. I foster an interactive learning environment in which students can actively do mathematics, comfortably ask questions, and work together to gain mathematical skills and confidence."
Dr. Hedman received his B.S. in Mathematics from DePaul University in 1992 and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. Since coming to FSC in 2001, Dr. Hedman has taught a wide range of mathematics courses including Applied Calculus, Calculus II, Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Numerical Methods, Discrete Mathematics, Number Theory, Game Theory, and Elementary Statistics. Dr. Hedman also enjoys directing senior seminar projects and honors thesis in mathematics. He is the faculty adviser for the FSC Math Club.
