Centers
The Center for Florida History sponsors the Florida Lecture Series; offers training in Florida history for public and private school teachers; works with and advises historical associations in the collection and preservation of historical artifacts, including oral histories, photographs, and manuscripts; holds symposia on special topics in Florida history; hosts a visiting scholar in Florida history; and publishes new and out-of-print works of Florida history. The Florida Citrus Archives preserves documents pertinent to the study of the place of citrus and the citrus industry in Florida. Such materials are preserved on CDs, as much as is possible, for research both here and remotely, far into the future, or otherwise physically stored in such a manner as to make them available to researchers for many years to come and to make these materials available to the general public as much as is practical given our current financial status. The Florida Center for Science and Religion The Florida Center for Science and Religion (www.fcsr.net) is funded by Florida Southern College and the Local Societies Initiative (LSI) grant of the Metanexus Institute on Religion and Science. The FCSR promotes the engagement of issues in science and religion throughout central Roberts Center for Learning and Literacy The Roberts Center for Learning and Literacy, housed in the Division of Education, was funded in 2006 through a generous gift from Marjorie and Hal Roberts of Lakeland. The Center provides specialized instruction in the early diagnosis and intervention of learning and literacy challenges, presents a Distinguished Lecture Series which hosts the nation’s preeminent leaders in the fields of dyslexia, sensory integration disorders and related difficulties, and supports the Hal and Marjorie Roberts Endowed Professorship in Learning and Literacy.
