Mark Curran ‘74
Lieutenant General
Army’s Futures Center

After 31 years in today’s Army, Mark Curran has taken the lead role in developing the Army of tomorrow. The 1974 graduate, a Lieutenant General at Historic Fort Monroe, Virginia, is director of the Army’s Futures Center. Curran oversees a staff of 600 (plus another 2000 indirectly), a dedicated group he calls “the combat development community and the intellectual capital of our Army.” He and his staff have the responsibility of designing, developing, and integrating the future United States Army. “I enjoy being with this group of professionals every day,” working in an atmosphere that is intellectually exhilarating, Curran says. “I am proud to be around them. They are passionate about what they do.”

The Army is about people, Curran says, and FSC taught him people skills, “the interaction with other people, both peers and those senior to me. FSC taught what it was like to be part of a values-based team. Today I belong to, and am comfortable with, a values-based organization.”
