Robin Krimm ‘84
Neuroscientist
University of Louisville

Robin Krimm ’84 is a nationally recognized neuroscientist recognized at the highest level. The White House awarded her the 2004 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers for her study on how a growth hormone in the body affects our ability to taste. Only fifty eight scholars nationwide were honored. Robin was nominated for the award by the National Institutes of Health. Her study showed how growth hormones that shape nerve pathways between key organs and other parts of the body affect the way our taste buds develop. Her work could someday help scientists come up with a way to reverse nerve damage caused by injury and disease.

“In science, information changes so rapidly that there is no specific knowledge that I gained over 20 years ago that is still useful today. In fact, most of what I learned 5 years ago is useless. What I gained from attending Florida Southern College didn’t come from text books, but the very individualized interaction that only a small college can provide. I learned how to think on my own, that information in text books is sometimes wrong, and the confidence to question dogma. I thank my former professors for having the patience to answer my never ending questions and engage in philosophical discussions outside of class.”
