Hurricane Matthew Weather Alert Oct. 7, 9:30 am

As Hurricane Matthew starts to move out of our area, we are pleased to report that the storm stayed to the east throughout the night, minimizing the impact to Lakeland. The campus had no major (or minor for that matter) incidents, the power stayed on, and all is well. All classes remain canceled for Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8.

Hurricanes & Tropical Storms

During Florida’s Hurricane Season, June 1-November 30, Florida Southern's Emergency Management Team will carefully monitor tropical storms which could effect Polk County.

If there is any significant change that impacts normal College operations and activities, the community will be alerted via the Web site and the text message system. The community may also call the emergency hotline at 863.680.4101 for updates.

As a preparedness measure, students and parents are encouraged to formulate a communication plan for use during an emergency. This plan should include a course of action to be taken should telephone and/or electronic service be disrupted.

For your convenience, here are some links that provide safety tips and storm tracking before, during and after a hurricane:

Questions regarding the Florida Southern College emergency plan should be directed to: Kate Whitaker at 863.680.4735 (kwhitaker@flsouthern.edu) or Terry Dennis at 863.680.4148 (vdennis@flsouthern.edu).

Parents: If you wish to opt-in to the campus emergency text message system, please e-mail your name and cell phone number to fneiling@flsouthern.edu.
