Personal Computer Setup
Mac Connection Setup

NOTE:  These are standard instructions.   Some of the steps may vary, due to the installation configuration

You should have or install the following:

  • The newer versions of the Mac operating system should have everything needed for Internet access.
  • Laserwriter Bridge, if your printer is a laserwriter
    • OT & Laserwriter Bridge are both on the Apple Internet disk or CD
  • Ethernet cable (LAN uses Twisted Pair 10Base-T, RJ45 connector)
    • If you have installed an Ethernet card, you must install the software from the accompanying disk. It is best to Custom Install just the software needed to operate your card.

IMPORTANT:   OS 8.1;  There is a conflict between a LocalTalk Extension and the LaserWriter Bridge.  It will involve not only your printer, but every LaserWriter on the network.  We prefer that everyone stay with OS 8.0 or any OS higher than 8.1.

To change password:

  • Go back into Chooser, Select AppleShare and FSCLAN05.
  • In the dialog box, you will see a Change Password choice.

  • Your set-up is complete. You can toss the UAM Volume in the trash if it is still on the desktop.
  • Don't forget to go back into the CHOOSER and reselect your printer.
  • If you have a laser printer you must have laserwriter bridge installed.
    • It will appear in the CONTROL PANEL and you should set it to PRIVATE or anyone with a Mac can send printing to it.
  • If you want it PUBLIC, be sure to rename your printer with the LaserWriter Utility (Ex: Tom's Printer).
  • The server will only recognize one LaserWriter II, one LaserWriter Select, etc. at a time.
