The Hazel Haley Scholarship Fund was created to honor the beloved Lakeland Senior High School English teacher Hazel Haley, a 1937 graduate of Florida Southern and Florida’s longest-serving teacher who taught for 69 years until her retirement in May 2006.
The fund will award scholarships to enable Lakeland Senior High School graduates to attend Miss Haley's alma mater, Florida Southern College.
The scholarships equal $2,500 per year for a total of $10,000 over 4 years.
The Hazel Haley Award Committee selects the recipients from first-year applicants to Florida Southern who have graduated from Lakeland High School. Candidates must have proven financial need and preference is given to those students majoring in Education or English.
