Director of Major Gifts

The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for the success of the College’s “BELIEVE: The Campaign for Florida Southern College” capital campaign.  The position is responsible for leading the Office of Advancement’s Major Gifts ($25,000+) initiative, including the moves management process for all gift officers. The position also will develop, implement and manage a Planned Giving program, as well as play a role in the acquisition of annual leadership gifts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major prospects from the following donor constituencies: alumni; friends; parents; foundations and corporations; and trustees. Meets personally with 20-25 prospects per month and actively manages a portfolio of approximately 250 major gifts prospects.
2.Responsible for the systematic major gift plan, including moves management for the President, Vice President for Advancement and External Relations, and all gift officers.
3.Travels in Polk County, the State of Florida, and to key prospect areas nationally to cultivate and solicit major gifts, planned gifts, and leadership annual gifts.
4.Identifies major donor prospect visit opportunities for the President. Coordinates and tracks donor visits for the President and the Vice President of Advancement and External Relations to cultivate and solicit major donor prospects (average one visit per week).
5.Drafts correspondence, formal proposals, and supporting materials to donors, including correspondence as needed for the President and Vice President for Advancement and External Relations.
6.Prepares timely prospect cultivation and donor stewardship communications, as appropriate. Works with administrative assistant to ensure that prospect call reports are entered into the College’s advancement database.
7.Assists Vice President for Advancement and External Relations in the preparation of three Trustee Advancement Committee meetings annually and presents at those meetings along with the President and Vice President for Advancement and External Relations, as directed.
8.Consults with senior administrators, deans, division directors, and other development staff on major gift programs and comprehensive campaign issues.
9.Works collaboratively with the Director of the Spivey Society and the Director of Advancement Services and Annual Fund to identify leadership Annual Fund prospects.
10.Contribute to the overall success of the Advancement department by completing all other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement and External Relations.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: 

1.Minimum of five years proven experience in development/donor solicitation or direct fund-raising, preferably in higher education.
2.Fund-raising experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully establish long-term relationships with high-end constituents.
3.Bachelor's degree required.
4.Strong ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
5.Must possess impeccable communication skills, both oral and written; a professional demeanor; a positive attitude; and the knowledge and ability to keep confidences.
6.Knowledge of development and advancement concepts, methods, and procedures as related to an institution of higher education.
