Academic department awards given at Florida Southern College

LAKELAND, Fla. (June 6, 2005) — The Florida Southern College Academic Department Awards were announced at Honors Convocation on April 20. The following students/graduates received department awards and/or scholarships:

Allen & Company Scholarship – Jessica Davis, a senior business administration major. She is the daughter of Richard Davis of Tampa, Fla., and Cheryl Davis of Winter Haven, Fla.

Apopka Garden Club Olga & Elin Larson Scholarship – Aaron Wiener, a junior landscape horticulture design major. He is the son of David Wiener of Cape Coral, Fla., and Cynthia Pompano of North Port, Fla.

Banks Medal in Religion (2) – Timothy Kromer, a senior religion major and son of Steven and Debra Kromer of Mary Esther, Fla.; and Tiffany Renee Patterson, a senior religion major and daughter of William and Linda Patterson of Mary Esther, Fla.

Sam Banks Scholarship – Larry Toth, a senior environmental horticulture major. He is the son of Beverly Toth of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Larry Angel.

Bayliss & Company Scholarship – Kacie Rogers, a senior accounting major. She is the daughter of David and Beverly Rogers of Venice, Fla.

Becker CPA Review – Justin Goss, a senior accounting major. He is the son of William and Marilyn Goss of Wauchula, Fla.

Herman & Theresa Tieser Baum Scholarship in Biology (2) – Samantha Bethel, a junior biology major residing in Sebring, Fla.; and Carla Schnitzlein, a senior biology major and daughter of Charles and Beverly Schnitzlein of Fall River, Mass.

Betsy Award – Byron Hogan, a senior music performance major. He is the son of Ronnie and Peggy Hogan of Lakeland, Fla.

Biology Merit Award – Lindsay Deuster, a senior biology major. She is the daughter of Michael and Jane Deuster of Green Bay, Wis.

John J. Brennan Scholarship – Bethanny Lahey, a junior environmental horticulture major. She is the daughter of Tom and Brenda Lahey of Manchester, N.H.

Walt Brewer Memorial Scholarship – Brent Beer, a junior citrus major. He is the son of Bryan and Cynthia Beer of LaBelle, Fla.

T.G. Buckner Medal in Philosophy – Timothy Kromer, a senior religion major. He is the son of Steven and Debra Kromer of Mary Esther, Fla.

Dick Burnette Criminology Award – Daniel Bair, a senior criminology major. He is the son of Robert and Suzanne Bair of Jeannette, Penn.

Cantilevers Student Writing Award (poetry) (2) – Jessica Helm, a senior English writing major and daughter of Paul Helm and Faith Helm of Lakeland, Fla.; and Victoria Sandbrook, a junior English literature major and daughter of John and Virginia Sandbrook of Davie, Fla.
