FSC theatre troupe presents “As Bees in Honey Drown”
LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 3, 2005) — Florida Southern’s theatre department performs “As Bees in Honey Drown” in the Loca Lee Buckner Theatre on the college campus, as part of FSC’s Festival of Fine Arts Series. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17-19 and Dec. 1-3; matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20 and Dec. 4. Mary T. Albright directs the play. "As Bees in Honey Drown" holds up a mirror to modern society's fascination with celebrities and exposes the seductive nature of fame, glamour and wealth. Thrust into Manhattan’s “fast lane” by the success of his first novel, a young writer falls prey to the wiles of Alexa, provocative lioness of the celebrity scene. Later, left alone and strapped with unpaid bills, he learns that others have shared his hapless fate. Written by Douglas Carter Beane, the play opened in New York City at the Drama Department in 1997. It won the prestigious Outer Critics Circle playwriting award, the Obie Award, and a nomination for the Drama Desk Best Play. Tickets are $15. FSC students are admitted free. Non-FSC students pay half price. For ticket information, please contact the Branscomb Auditorium box office at (863) 680-4296. About Florida Southern College |
