FSC Head Baseball Coach Pete Meyer Named As Assistant Athletic Director

LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2006) — President Dr. Anne B. Kerr announced today that head baseball coach Pete Meyer has added the duties of Assistant Athletic Director to his role at Florida Southern College.  In addition to various administrative duties including gift cultivation, Meyer, the 2005 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year, will continue in his fourth season as head coach of Florida Southern’s highly successful baseball program.

“Pete Meyer is an exceptional leader, on the field and off. Combining his skills as both head coach and administrator will provide a strong addition to our championship athletic program,” said Dr. Kerr. “Pete’s expanded role will continue our focus on building one of the nation’s premier scholar-athlete programs.”

“I am truly excited about this new opportunity,” said Meyer. “We have an incredible foundation of athletic excellence here at FSC and I’m looking forward to helping build upon it. Not only will we share our past tradition of historic accomplishments, but we’ll also focus on what will be our accomplishments for years to come!"

Meyer guided the Moccasins to their ninth Division II title last season. The Florida Southern College athletic program has won 25 national championships in its history. In addition to his national coaching honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association, Meyer also was South Region and Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year.

“Pete comes to this position with knowledge of the tradition of excellence of Florida Southern College. He has strong recognition in the community and is a great fit for this position,” said FSC athletic director Lois Webb.
