FSC’s resident advisors earn coveted Spirit Award

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 2, 2006) — Florida Southern College’s resident advisors (RAs) earned the Spirit Award at the Florida Resident Advisor Seminar (FRAS) at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Jan. 21-22. RAs are undergraduate students who serve as student leaders in campus residence halls. Ten of the 46 FSC RA’s attended the seminar.

“The RA’s showed a tremendous amount of FSC pride and deserved the seminar’s highly coveted award,” said Cari Murphy, FSC director of student life. “They were true ambassadors for the College at FRAS, and their commitment to FSC is evident in all they do.”

The FRAS annual conference is a high-spirited learning opportunity for RAs across the state. Session topics range from teambuilding and diversity to residence hall bulletin boards. The 10 FSC RAs competed for the Spirit Award against schools with delegations as many as 30 RAs. FSC RAs arrived in a cardboard racecar to promote the seminar’s “FRASCAR” theme, and, according to Karen Patten, the FSC student life coordinator who accompanied the students, “cheered their hearts out from start to finish.”

FSC RAs at FRAS were Tara Campbell, a senior from Lakeland, Fla.; Andrew Flowers, a junior from Sharpsville, Pa.; Daniela Garcia, a junior from Lakeland, Fla.; Mat Hotho, a junior from Largo, Fla.; Justin Laferierre, a sophomore from Winter Haven, Fla.; Lynsay McCaulley, a junior from Polk City, Fla.; Beth Owens, a senior from Palm Harbor, Fla.; Aimee Singleton, a senior from Lecanto, Fla.; Jennifer Spencer, a junior from Deltona, Fla.; and Emily Sterling, a junior from Auburndale, Fla.
