FSC ROTC holds Charles R. Rubado Memorial Golf Scramble

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 7, 2006) — Florida Southern College ROTC will hold the Inaugural Charles R. Rubado Memorial Golf Scramble on April 21 at Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland, Fla. Four-person teams are invited to register for the 19-hole shotgun scramble. Registration begins at 11:30 p.m. and play begins at 1 p.m. Individual entry is $75.

Second Lt. Charles R. Rubado was a 2004 graduate of FSC and the first FSC graduate to die in conflict in Iraq. A criminology major and member of Lambda Chi Alpha and ROTC, he died in service to his country, by enemy sniper fire, during a dangerous mission to help another unit. Second Lt. Rubado’s parents, his wife Mary-Anne Hollingsworth Rubado ’02, college president Anne B. Kerr, and members of the Suncoast Chapter of the Association of the United States Army will be in attendance. Retired Sgt. Maj. of the Army Jack Tilley, who achieved the highest enlisted position in the Army, will be the tournament’s guest speaker.

Each player will receive a round of golf, range balls, a goody bag, dinner and chances to win raffle prizes. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Charles R. Rubado Scholarship Fund and the Florida Southern College Moccasin Battalion Cadet Fund. For more information, call FSC Army ROTC at (863) 680-4273.
