FSC faculty pursue academic projects

LAKELAND, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2007) — Florida Southern College faculty members pursue extracurricular academic activities year-round, giving presentations, publishing articles, and attending conferences. The following summarizes their recent activities and recognitions.

Lisa Erdman, assistant professor of art and director of the graphic design program, presented “Annual Checkup: Pharmaceuticals for the 21st Century” at the “Stranger Than Fiction” video and film festival on Jan. 2 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Finland.

Cindy Hardin, professor of business administration, received the Distinguished Graduate Award from The National Catholic Educational Association and St. Joseph’s School in Lakeland on Feb. 2. The award is presented to someone who exemplifies the highest qualities of Catholic education and who has rendered distinguished service to the Catholic church and the United States of America.

Paula Leftwich, assistant professor of education, presented a paper at the Eastern Educational Research Association in Clearwater, Fla. held Feb. 14-17. She collaborated with education graduate students Amy Hoien and Brad Fales, both of Lakeland, Fla., to present “Action Research: A Tool for Building Teacher Leadership.”

Sharon Masters, professor of sociology, served as conference chair at the Florida Consortium for Gender and Women’s Studies, “Florida Without Borders: Women at the Intersections of the Local and Global,” held Feb. 9-11 in Tampa, Fla.

Christopher H. Ramey, assistant professor of psychology, has joined the editorial board of PsycCRITIQUES-APA Contemporary Psychology Review of Books.

John Santosuosso, political science professor, has written “Canada: An Introduction for Americans.” The book presents the story of Canada’s birth and growth, Santosuosso said, “the contributions of the English, French, First Nations, and Inuit, and the distinctly Canadian ways of doing politics and building their economy.” “Canada: An Introduction for Americans” is available online at publishamerica.com, amazon.com, and other booksellers. It will also be sold at the FSC bookstore on campus.

John L. Stancil, associate professor of accounting, was appointed to the editorial review board for Strategic Finance magazine, the flagship publication of the Institute for Management Accountants. Stancil was also rated the top expert for January on the website, allexperts.com. He serves as a tax expert among over 30,000 experts in various subjects.
