Florida Southern ROTC holds 2nd annual golf scramble
LAKELAND, Fla. (March 30, 2007) — Florida Southern’s ROTC will hold the 2nd annual Charles R. Rubado Memorial Golf Scramble on April 13 at Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland. Four-person teams or individuals are invited to register for the 18-hole scramble, which starts at 1 p.m. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with driving range time included to warm up. Participants can register by mail, in-person at the ROTC Department, or via the web at the following address: http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1414497. Second Lieutenant Charles R. Rubado was a 2004 graduate of FSC and the first FSC graduate to die in the Global War on Terrorism. A criminology major and member of Lambda Chi Alpha and ROTC, he died in service to his country, by enemy sniper fire, during a dangerous mission to help another unit. Second Lieutenant Rubado was a member of the Moccasin Cadet Corps and will forever be remembered and honored by his fellow comrades. He was the student, person, and leader that the Cadets of FSC ROTC aspire to be. The Moccasin Battalion is responsible for training students just like Second Lieutenant Rubado to become future leaders of the United States Army, who upon graduation will receive commissions as second lieutenants. The Cadet’s dedication, sacrifice, and sense of duty are unsurpassed. Second Lieutenant Rubado’s parents, his wife Mary-Anne Hollingsworth Rubado ’02, and members of the Suncoast Chapter of the Association of the United States Army will be in attendance. Retired Sergeant Major of the Army Jack Tilley, who achieved the highest enlisted position in the Army, will be playing in the Golf Scramble. Each player will receive a round of golf, range balls, a goody bag, dinner and chances to win raffle prizes. The entry fee is $75 per person, or $45 per student (with ID). All proceeds will benefit both the Charles R. Rubado Scholarship fund, and the Florida Southern College Moccasin Battalion Cadet Fund. For more information call the FSC Army ROTC at (863) 680-4235.
