Florida Southern College presents Latino Film Fright Fest 2007

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 30, 2007) — Florida Southern College’s Department of Modern Languages will present a special showing of Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth,” in Room B202 of the Davis Performing Arts Center on the FSC campus. The event takes place on Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. Dr. Mary Pharr, FSC English professor, will introduce the film, which is in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

Winner of three Oscars, “Pan’s Labyrinth” tells the gothic-style tale of a young girl and the fantasy world she creates to survive her harsh reality. Set in post-Civil War Spain, the movie suggests how fairy tales help children survive the real world, for which they are not prepared, and how adults, who have forgotten this ability, disregard it as nothing, thus missing the power of fantasy.
