Florida Southern service learning programs featured in national publication
LAKELAND, Fla. (April 22, 2008) — Florida Southern College will be featured in the Beyond the Books Guide to Service Learning Colleges and Universities, a national publication that annually showcases institutions that have demonstrated exemplary leadership in service learning and civic engagement. FSC is among just ten percent of the colleges and universities in the guide selected for inclusion in a special section of the guide. The catalog, which will be available this summer, is distributed to high schools and community colleges throughout the country. “This is an excellent opportunity for Florida Southern College to highlight the many ways in which our students work together to contribute to the community,” said Dr. Marcia Posey, undergraduate program coordinator/associate professor and chair of the FSC Council on Diversity, Civic Engagement and Social Awareness. “I am very proud of the service learning programs they have initiated with the support of the College.” The full-page feature includes an overview of Florida Southern, descriptions of flagship service learning initiatives on campus, a list of programs offering service learning courses, photos and quotations from students and faculty. The guide is published by Student Horizons, Inc. under its initiative, Beyond the Books, a project committed to promoting institutions of higher education that excel in providing experiential learning opportunities. |
