LAKELAND, Fla. (April 21, 2008) — Nathan (Nate) Thomas Jordan, a graduating senior, was named the 2008 Honor Walk Student during Honors Convocation April 16 at Florida Southern College. Each year the College selects a graduating senior for its highest honor based on the student’s academic achievements, exceptional leadership in campus activities, and service to the community. In keeping with the College’s 77-year-old Honor Walk tradition, Jordan’s name has been etched in stone and will be placed in the prestigious Honor Walk which, this year, will move to the front of the new Sarah D. and L. Kirk McKay, Jr. Archive Wing, now under construction.

Jordan was chosen from among 17 outstanding nominees. A recreational turfgrass management major with a 3.97 GPA, he is a President’s Scholar and a member of numerous honor societies, including Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national leadership honorary fraternity. He also was president of the FSC chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho, the national agriculture fraternity, guiding it to full chapter status during his tenure. His exceptional contributions to Alpha Gamma Rho were recognized at the national level through his election as one of only four students in the nation to serve on the Alpha Gamma Rho National Board of Directors.

In announcing the award, FSC president Dr. Anne Kerr said, “Our Honor Walk Student has successfully combined academic excellence with important engagement on campus and in the community. He is a powerful role model for the children he mentors at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Villa. Recognized as an FSC Rising Star and Outstanding Junior of the Year, he was also honored as the 2007 Student Leader of the Year. It is indeed an honor to recognize someone whose contributions reflect so well the mission of this remarkable institution.”

Jordan is the son of Tom and Audrey Jordan of Canfield, Ohio, who were present at the awards convocation.
