Top-selling guide describes academic, social and extracurricular activities of best and most interesting schools in the country

LAKELAND, Fla. (June 26, 2008) — Florida Southern College has, for the first time, been included in the prestigious Fiske Guide to Colleges, the nation’s No. 1 bestselling college guide. The 25th edition lists FSC among 300 of “the best and most interesting” public and private schools in the nation.

A bestseller since it first appeared two decades ago, the Fiske Guide is regarded as the definitive college guide of its type, covering academics, campus setting, student body, financial aid, housing, food, social life, and extracurricular activities. The guide includes descriptive essays of 1,000-2,500 words about each institution.

Florida Southern was also touted as a “Best Buy School” by the guide, which gave this designation to only 26 private institutions in the country. The guide defines Best Buy Schools as those which “provide outstanding academics at a relatively modest price.”

“Without a doubt, Florida Southern College has a lot going for it,” states the guide, quoting a student, who says, “Florida Southern focuses on the total student and prepares people academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually to be contributing members of society.”
