Florida Southern alumnus receives achievement citation

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 18, 2005) - Florida Southern College honors alumnus Robert J. Fauls, Jr., a 1971 graduate, at its Founders Day convocation April 1 at 10:10 a.m. in Branscomb Auditorium on the FSC campus. Fauls will receive the Alumni Achievement Citation, awarded to FSC alumni for excellence in a profession or endeavor.

"Florida Southern College has exceptional alumni around the world who are leaders in their professions," said Shari Szabo, director of alumni relations. "The Alumni Association proudly recognizes Bob Fauls as one of the best of the best during our Homecoming weekend."

Fauls is president/owner and CEO of R.J. Fauls Holdings, Inc., a national trucking corporation based in Atlanta, and owner of Chapel Farms Arabians. After earning his business management degree from FSC, Fauls embarked on a career in the trucking industry. In 1980 he began his own company, Southern Freight, Inc., a regional carrier that serves Georgia and Florida. Today Fauls owns and runs SFI and several subsidiary transportation-related companies with operations in the Southeast, Midwest and on the West Coast.

Following the early success of SFI, Fauls and his wife, Christine, purchased land in Newnan, Ga., and began Chapel Farms Arabians, a 200-acre Egyptian-Arabian horse farm. Chapel Farms has earned an international reputation for producing high quality, champion stallions. Fauls serves on the board of trustees of the Pyramid Society, which promotes the preservation of Egyptian horse bloodlines, and is currently the chairman of The Purebred Arabian Trust horse registry and vice president of the Arabian Horse Association.

While at FSC, Fauls served as president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. His guidance of the business club brought it from mediocrity to the most improved chapter in the nation.
