Alex Lauretano’s gold medal helps Team USA take second consecutive team gold medal

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2008) — Florida Southern College junior Alex Lauretano became the 2008 Women's Trick Skiing World Champion at the World University Water Ski Championships held Oct. 1-4 in Tianjin, China. The event was held at the prestigious Vanke Dongli Lake International Water Sports Park just outside of Beijing. The tournament was sponsored by the Federation of International University Sports in conjunction with the International Water Ski Federation and the Peoples Republic of China's Water Ski Federation.

Lauretano's Gold Medal helped propel Team USA to its second consecutive team gold medal with a total score of 8,572.13 points. In total, Laurentano and her teammates won 10 individual medals. Lauretano won the gold in women’s tricks (7,360 points), the silver in jumping (151 feet) and overall (2,677.95 points).

Next up for Lauretano will be World Cup competitions in Malaysia on Nov. 7-9 and Qatar on Nov. 13–15.

Lauretano’s sponsors include MasterCraft Boats, D3 Skis and Girls4Sport Activewear, and she is an athlete sponsor for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
