Lakeland's Annual Hispanic Festival: Celebrating Latin Food and Culture

Annual Hispanic Festival

FSC students Shari Ritter ’09, Mike Mackowski ’10, and Stefanie Shaw ’09 enjoyed Latin Food and Music at the Annual Hispanic Festival at Lakeland’s Lake Mirror.

FSC students came together with the local Latin American community, in celebration of Hispanic culture at the 11th annual Hispanic Festival at Downtown’s Lake Mirror on October 11.

Hosted by Club Hispano de Lakeland, the festival was started in the hopes that people would come to know more about the Latin presence in Polk County while enjoying a cultural event.

Kicking off in the early afternoon with the traditional Parade of Flags, the "fiesta" continued well into the night as some of the area's best Latin dancers and musicians showcased their talents.

“It is a great time, they have music from all different Hispanic countries, and of course my main reason for going was the food,” said Stefanie Shaw, an advertising major at FSC. With over 50 booths, featuring everything from ensalada de pulpo (octopus salad) to helado de parcha (passion fruit sherbet), there was something tasty for everyone to enjoy.
