FSC Theatre Department presents "Dancing at Lughnasa"
LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2008) — Florida Southern College’s Theatre Arts Department presents “Dancing at Lughnasa,” by Brian Friel, in the Loca Lee Buckner Theatre on the college campus. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 20-22; matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 16 and Nov. 23. Paul D. Bawek directs the play. The Tony Award-winning play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. The action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him, his mother and four maiden aunts. Widely regarded as Friel’s masterpiece, this haunting play is his tribute to the spirit and valor of the past. Tickets are $15. FSC students are admitted free. Non-FSC students pay half price. For ticket information, please contact the Buckner Theatre box office at 863-680-3089 or bucknerboxoffice@flsouthern.edu. Box office hours are weekdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. |
