FSC Theatre Department Presents Neil Simon's Tony Award-Winning "Brighton Beach Memoirs"

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 19, 2009) — Florida Southern College's Theatre Arts Department presents "Brighton Beach Memoirs," a Tony Award-winning classic by Neil Simon, in the Loca Lee Buckner Theatre on the college campus. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. April 2-4 and April 9-11; matinees start at 2:30 p.m. April 5 and April 12. Paul D. Bawek directs the play.

"Brighton Beach Memoirs" is widely considered one of the most effective combinations of drama and comedy of the twentieth century. Set in pre-World War II Brooklyn, the play is semi-autobiographical in its portrayal of the coming of age of Eugene Jerome as he searches for identity and tries to deal with his family. In addition to two Tony Awards, the play garnered a New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best play.

The play contains adult language and subject matter and may be unsuitable for anyone under the age of thirteen.

Tickets are $15. FSC students are admitted free. Non-FSC students pay half price. For ticket information, please contact the Buckner Theatre box office at 863-680-3089 or bucknerboxoffice@flsouthern.edu. Box office hours are weekdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
