Students Learn About Opportunities at Career and Internship Expo
LAKELAND (Nov. 11, 2011) – Florida Southern College students flocked to the Career, Internship & Graduate School Expo held Nov. 9 at the Honeyman Pavilion and hosted by the FSC Career Center. About 215 students came to talk to representatives from 30 companies, nonprofit and government organizations and 11 graduate schools. The students learned about internships in fields ranging from accounting to the performing arts. Among the companies and organizations present were GEICO Auto Insurance; LarsonAllen, a public accounting firm; Syngenta, a Swis agribusiness company; and the U.S. Department of State. The Career Center organized the event to help students gain a better understanding of the options available to them in careers and advanced degrees, and to show them how to start the process of selling themselves to employers and graduate programs, said Xuchitl Coso, Director of Career Development. “The recruiters said it was one of their favorite expos because our students are respectful, enthusiastic and well prepared. They also felt we have a very organized and smooth process,” Coso said. “First time student attendees felt it was a great opportunity to network with different employers, and our juniors and seniors found some great leads for internships and full-time job opportunities. All of our students felt they learned a lot and were appreciative of our office for getting them ready for the event.” The Career Center hosts the event on campus in the fall and participates in a spring expo held jointly with the Colleges of Central Florida Career Consortium (CCFCC). |
