FSC cancels classes in wake of national tragedy

LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 11, 2001) — Florida Southern College President Thomas L. Reuschling announced today that evening program classes for Tuesday, Sept. 11, have been cancelled for the Lakeland, Orlando and Ocala campuses. Currently, no other classes have been cancelled.

The college is holding an all-campus prayer service today at 3:15 p.m. in Branscomb Auditorium in Lakeland for students, faculty and staff. Additionally, Annie Pfieffer Chapel will remain open. All resident advisors and student life coordinators will be available for grief counseling.

"We are making every effort to ensure our students have access to counseling in order to sort through the emotions they may be experiencing from today's tragic events," said Reuschling.

Class information for the Lakeland campus will be posted via college e-mail, the college Web site at www.flsouthern.edu, and the emergency phone line at (863) 680-4101. Lakeland students are encouraged to check their e-mail early Wednesday morning to learn of any class cancellations. Orlando students are encouraged to call (407) 855-1302 for information on class cancellations. Ocala students are asked to call (352) 732-8411.
