Southern appoints new trustees
LAKELAND, Fla.
(June 12, 2002) - Four appointees to the Florida Southern College
Board of Trustees were approved by the Florida Conference of the
United Methodist Church at their annual meeting in Lakeland during
May. Robert L. Fryer, Jr.; Jeffrey K. Hearn; Rev. Teresa L. Hill;
and John R. Rodda have been appointed for three-year terms.
Robert L. Fryer,
Jr. - Fryer is a registered representative for RBC Dain Raucher,
a securities firm in Lancaster, Pa. He has worked since 1970 for
several investment and banking firms in the Pennsylvania area. He
has held board membership on the Lancaster County Day School; Hopper
Soliday & Co., Inc.; Dauphin Deposit Corporation; Dover Regional
Financial Shares; and Watt & Shand, Inc. He holds certification
with the National Association of Securities Dealers and a professorship
with the Central Atlantic School of Banking at Dickinson College
in Carlisle, Pa. and Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
A 1970 graduate
of Florida Southern College, Fryer was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity
and Omicron Delta Kappa, participated in ROTC, and later served
in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Jeffrey K. Hearn
- Hearn graduated from Florida Southern with a degree in business
administration and completed the Securities Industry Institute at
the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In the securities
industry since 1984, Hearn has been with Raymond James & Associates
of St. Petersburg since 1991 and has been named twice as Branch
Manager of the Year. Hearn serves on the boards of Florida Blood
Services, Florida International Museums, Downtown St. Petersburg
Partnership, and Bayfront Health Foundation. He also volunteers
as a youth counselor for the First United Methodist Church and has
participated in the Rotary Club, the Board of Governors for St.
Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, and the Pinellas County Urban League.
Rev. Teresa
L. Hill - Hill is a 1979 graduate of Florida Southern College and
received her master's in divinity from the Candler School of Theology
at Emory University. Hill is a former Jacksonville District superintendent.
Currently, she and her husband, Rev. John Hill, serve as co-pastors
at the Isle of Faith United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Fla.
John R. Rodda
- Rodda is president and sole owner of Rodda Construction, Inc.,
which specializes in commercial and industrial construction. He
started as a self-employed builder in Lakeland in 1975 and subsequently
worked for Joyner Lumber Company and Andras Engineering. In 1989,
he established his own company, which has annual sales exceeding
$75 million. Rodda received the 2000 Builder of the Year award from
Lakeland Historic Preservation Society and in 2002 received the
prestigious Contractor's Award from the City of Lakeland Historic
Preservation Board.
