William
Dean Witten receives honorary
degree from Florida Southern College
LAKELAND, Fla. (April 15, 2002) - The Rev. William Dean Witten,
the District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church for the
Orlando District, will receive an honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity
during Florida Southern College's baccalaureate service April 27.
The ceremony, at which the Lakeland evening, MBA, and Orlando graduates
will receive their degrees, takes place at 10:30 a.m. in Branscomb
Auditorium.
A 1960 graduate
of Florida Southern, Witten is being recognized for his distinguished
career with the United Methodist Church. He has served the church
in Florida for more than 40 years as an ordained deacon, elder,
pastor, and district superintendent.
Witten served
as a pastor in various Florida cities and in 1992 became District
Superintendent of Florida. After a brief return to the pulpit from
1998 to 2000, he serves today as Superintendent of the Orlando District.
