at Florida Southern College

LAKELAND, Fla. (May 6, 2003) - The Florida Southern College Academic Department Awards were announced at Honors Convocation on April 16. The following students/graduates received department awards and/or scholarships: 

Allen & Company Scholarship - Laura Hardy, a junior business major. She is the daughter of Steve Hardy of Valrico, Fla. and Linda McCormick of Lakeland, Fla. 

Apopka Garden Club Scholarship (2) - Elizabeth Bass, a senior business administration major from Lakeland, Fla.; and James Michael Knighten, a senior environmental horticulture major from Highland City, Fla. 

Banks Medal in Religion (2) - A. Elizabeth Waller, a senior music and religion major. She is the daughter of Richard and Avonel Waller of Lakeland, Fla.; and Meredith Morley, a December 2002 religion graduate and daughter of Robert and Mary Morley of Lakeland, Fla.

Sam Banks Scholarship - Steven John Wagner, a freshman environmental horticulture major. He is the son of John and Marlene Wagner of Middletown, N.Y. 

Becker CPA Review - Kathleen S. Cheshier, a senior accounting major. She is the daughter of Christine Vinson of Lake Placid, Fla. and Mike Vinson. 

Herman & Theresa Tieser Baum Scholarship in Biology (3) - Joshua Berman, a sophomore biology major and son of Glennalee Berman of London, Ont. and Marshall Berman; Melody Brown, a senior chemistry and biology major and daughter of David and Debra Brown of Lakeland, Fla.; and Toan Nguyen, a sophomore biology major and son of Dinh Nguyen and Le Thi Yen of Orlando, Fla.

Betsy Award - Aimee Stine, a senior music education major. She is the daughter of Timothy and Bonnie Stine of Lakeland, Fla. 

Biology Merit Award - Christine Higbie, a senior biology major. She is the daughter of Steven Higbie and Karen Higbie of West Islip, N.Y. 

John J. Brennan Scholarship - Daniel McCollum, a junior recreational turf grass management major. He is the son of Donald McCollum of Loxahatchee, Fla. 

Charles T. & Mary H. Brumback Scholarship - Glen Hegedus, a junior horticulture science major. He is the son of Samuel and Cathy Hegedus of Ft. Pierce, Fla. 

Dick Burnette Criminology Award - Mercedes Baker, a junior psychology, criminology and sociology major. She is the daughter of Laurncille Baker of Lakeland, Fla. and Francis Baker. 

Carter, Belcourt & Atkinson Scholarship - Marianne Harder, a senior accounting and business administration major. She is the daughter of Laura Harder of Auburndale, Fla. 

Chairman's Award (5) - Michael D. Lillie, a December 2002 business administration graduate and son of John and Jarianne Lillie of Winter Haven, Fla.; Adam L. Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year - Erin Pixton, a senior athletic training major. She is the daughter of John and Catherine Pixton of Odessa, Fla. 

F.I.C.P.A. Scholarship Nominee (2) - Kathryn E. Paight, a senior business administration major and the daughter of Donald and Nina Paight of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Shannon Murray, a sophomore accounting and mathematics major and daughter of David and Cheryl Murray of North Ft. Myers, Fla. 

Florida Club Scholarship Award - Andrew Cauthan, a junior citrus major. He is the son of Ron and Georgan Cauthan of Bartow, Fla. 

Florida Department of Citrus "Outstanding Citrus Student" Award - Joel Connell, a senior marketing/citrus major. He is the son of Robert and Judith Connell of Ocala, Fla. 

Lake Region FNGA "Outstanding Horticulture Major" Award (2) - Dan Carmi, a senior business and environmental horticulture major from Apopka, Fla.; and Kate Lahey, a senior environmental horticulture major and daughter of Garry and Joyce Lahey of Naples, Fla. 

Denis L. Fontaine Memorial Scholarship (3) - Kacie Rogers, a freshman accounting major and daughter of David and Beverly Rogers of Venice, Fla.; Gina R.
