Pharr's essay on "Synthetics, Humanity, and the Life Force in the 'Alien' Quartet" appears as Chapter 13 in "No Cure for the Future: Disease and Medicine in Science Fiction and Fantasy," eds. Gary Westfahl and George Slusser (Greenwood, 2002). This book, Number 102 in Greenwood's "Contributions to the Study of Science Fiction and Fantasy" series, was published in October. Early in December, Pharr's essay, "In Medias Res: Harry Potter as Hero-in-Progress," was published as a chapter in "The Ivory Tower and Harry Potter: Perspectives on a Literary Phenomenon," ed.
