FSC student named
top performer
in internship program
LAKELAND, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2002) - Zachary Schlobohm, a Florida Southern
College senior, has been named one of the top ten performers in
the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network internship program. The
business administration major, who finished eighth in the nation,
is the son of Joseph and Vicki Gex of Atlanta, Ga.
More than 1,000 college students participate in the Northwestern
internship program each year, which is ranked among the top ten
internships in the nation by the Princeton Review's annual publication,
America's Top Internships. Schlobohm received this distinction by
selling 21 financial products, such as life insurance, disability
insurance, annuities, and IRAs, in a contest that ran from May to
August.
Schlobohm has participated in Northwestern's internship program
since March 2001. The program is designed to provide interns with
intensive personal and professional career development and to give
them real-world experience in the financial world. Interns become
licensed and work alongside full-time financial representatives
who mentor the interns on succeeding in sales and the business world.
Schlobohm says his mentor, John Byczek, "taught me not only business
etiquette and sales techniques, but lessons on life and the power
of positive thinking. He also taught me the importance of goal-setting
and to do whatever it takes to accomplish them."
As Northwestern's top-producing intern in the Tampa Bay area in
2001, Schlobohm received a promotion to College Unit Director. In
this position, Schlobohm supervises, recruits, trains, and mentors
new interns. Because of his successful and extensive internship
experience, Schlobohm was also nominated by the FSC Career Center
for the 2002 Florida Career Professionals Association Student of
the Year Award.
