Port St. Lucie attorney
appointed to
Florida Southern board of trustees
LAKELAND, Fla. (June 11,
2003) - Evett L. Simmons, a Port St. Lucie, Fla. attorney, was appointed
to Florida Southern College's board of trustees in May at the Florida
United Methodist Annual Conference in Lakeland. Simmons will serve
on the board for a three-year term.
Simmons, a 1979 FSC alumna, is a partner at Ruden McClosky, P.A.,
in Port St. Lucie. She received her JD degree from Mercer University
Law School in 1982. Simmons is active in numerous professional associations,
including the American Bar Foundation, the Florida Bar, and the
National Bar Association, of which she served as president in 2000.
Her civic and service organizations include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Phi Mu Fraternity, The Links International, Pace Center for Girls,
NAACP, and United Way. She has won many awards and honors, including
Alumna of the Year at Mercer University School of Law, Alumna Achievement
Award at FSC, and Honorary Doctorate of Laws at Suffolk University.
"Evett is a distinguished alumna," said Dr. Thomas L. Reuschling,
president of Florida Southern. "With her legal expertise and active
involvement in community affairs, she will be a great asset to our
board."
