LAKELAND, Fla. (August
20, 2002) - Three Florida Southern English majors and one 2002 graduate
have been accepted to present a session at the annual meeting of
the Florida College English Association on October 17-18 in Gainesville.
Dr. Mary Pharr, FSC English professor, will chair the session at
which the group will summarize their experiences with the publishing
process. Each participant will present a brief explanation of the
development of her work and a summary or portion of the work itself.
"Having academic work accepted for professional publication is a
remarkable and unusual accomplishment for undergraduates," said
Pharr. "All four represent FSC at its best."
Karli Taylor, 2002 humanities graduate, will discuss her senior
seminar paper, "The Ignorant Student's Guide to Publishing." Taylor
is the daughter of William and Laurel Taylor of Wasilla, Ark.
Senior Melissa Slavicz's paper was published in the journal of The
Popular Culture Association of the South. She will present "Disney
Capitalizes on Daytime Television: From Presentation to Publication."
