Southern students awarded
recognition at honors convocation
LAKELAND, Fla.
(April 23, 2003) - The annual Honors Convocation at Florida Southern
College brought recognition to numerous students in a variety of
categories. Recognitions given included the following honors and
awards:
Order of Omega
- Greek Man of the Year - James Admire, a member of Lambda Chi Alpha
and senior accounting major. He is the son of Burton and Linda Admire
of Cape Coral, Fla.
Order of Omega
- Greek Woman of the Year - Melissa Barker, a member of Zeta Tau
Alpha and senior business administration major. She is the daughter
of Wayne and Vickie Barker of Clearwater, Fla.

Purcell Scholarships (3) - Nicole Kita, a junior art major and daughter
of Gary and Karen Kita of Lakeland, Fla.; Katie Bates, a sophomore
music education major and daughter of Timothy and Carol Bates of
Lakeland, Fla.; and Heather Ross, a junior education major and daughter
of Kenneth and Debbie Ross of Lakeland, Fla.

training major and daughter of John and Catherine Pixton of Odessa,

of the Year - Diana Placzkowski, a senior music education major.

Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award - Andrew Scott MacDonald,
a senior biology major. He is the son of Bruce and Sharon MacDonald
of Wilbraham, Mass.
Student Volunteer
of the Year Award - Kristy Hedrick, a freshman chemistry major.
She is the daughter of Kenneth and Carol Hedrick of Rome, N.Y.
Southern Ambassador
of the Year - Gina Alioto, a sophomore business administration major.
She is the daughter of Glenn and Betty Alioto of Milwaukee, Wis.

junior business administration major. He is the son of Jay and Diane

Kappa Salutes - Adam Spafford, a senior business administration
major. He is the son of Sidney and Sheila Spafford of Kissimmee,
Fla.
Agnes Johnson
Rowe (2) and The James C. Rogers Recognitions - Heidi Peterson,
a senior biology major, and Kathryn Thomas, a senior economics and
business administration major, have won the Agnes Johnson Rowe award.
Peterson is the daughter of William and Arlette Peterson of West
Boulston, Mass.; Thomas is the daughter of Michael and Patricia
Thomas of Strongsville, Ohio. Derrien Bonney, a senior business
administration major, has won the James C. Rogers Recognition. He
is the son of William and Charlotte Bonney of Bartow, Fla.
