FSC student selected for
Dow Jones internship

LAKELAND, Fla. (Jan. 2, 2003) - Florida Southern College senior Lacy Emmerling was selected by the Knight-Ridder newspaper group for a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund (DJNF) editing internship at the Tallahassee Democrat. Emmerling, majoring in communication and English, is managing editor of the college's student newspaper, The Southern.

DJNF offers annual summer internships in business reporting, real-time financial newswires, online editing, news copy editing and sports copy editing. Each program provides free pre-internship training seminars on college campuses and weekly salaries starting at $325 for a minimum of 10 weeks. Interns who return to college full-time the following fall will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Fund.

Emmerling will train in May at the Dow Jones site at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and spend 10 weeks as a copy editing intern at the Democrat. The daughter of Carl and Sharon Emmerling of Melbourne, Fla., plans to attend graduate school in January 2003, and thus will earn the $1,000 scholarship.
