FSC co-authors $24,500
grant awarded to the
Florida Higher Education Alliance for
Substance Abuse Prevention
The college teamed with the
University of Tampa and
the University of Central Florida to develop the grant
LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2003) - Florida
Southern College, together with the University of Tampa (UT) and
the University of Central Florida (UCF), will implement a $24,500
grant awarded by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to
the Florida Higher Education - Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention
(FHE-ASAP). Tom Hall, counselor and coordinator of the Alcohol and
Other Drug Prevention program at FSC, developed the grant together
with Robert Ruday, dean of students at UT, and Laura Riddle, director
of Alcohol and Other Drug Programming at UCF.
FHE-ASAP is a consortium of Florida schools that promotes statewide
prevention strategies. FSC is active at the state level regarding
issues of alcohol use and abuse that affect Florida students. The
grant will be used to provide statewide data collection and prevention
education. Hall, the project director, will coordinate the data
collection and identify multi-year grant funding opportunities for
FHE-ASAP.
