FSC co-authors $24,500 grant awarded to the
Florida Higher Education Alliance for
Substance Abuse Prevention
The college teamed with the University of Tampa and
the University of Central Florida to develop the grant

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2003) - Florida Southern College, together with the University of Tampa (UT) and the University of Central Florida (UCF), will implement a $24,500 grant awarded by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to the Florida Higher Education - Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (FHE-ASAP). Tom Hall, counselor and coordinator of the Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention program at FSC, developed the grant together with Robert Ruday, dean of students at UT, and Laura Riddle, director of Alcohol and Other Drug Programming at UCF.

FHE-ASAP is a consortium of Florida schools that promotes statewide prevention strategies. FSC is active at the state level regarding issues of alcohol use and abuse that affect Florida students. The grant will be used to provide statewide data collection and prevention education. Hall, the project director, will coordinate the data collection and identify multi-year grant funding opportunities for FHE-ASAP.
