Florida Southern students awarded
recognition at honors convocation
LAKELAND, Fla. (May 6, 2004) - The annual Honors Convocation at Florida Southern College brought recognition to numerous students in a variety of categories. Recognitions given included the following honors and awards:
Religion in Life Award - Derek Major, a senior business administration marketing management major. He is the son of H. Allen and Linda Major of Pottstown, Pa.
Leslie Harper Purcell Scholarships (5) - Biljana Cokovic, a junior computer science major and daughter of Boris and Roza Cokovic of Macedonia; Miranda Crow, a junior public relations major and daughter of Alva and Carla Crow of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; Ashley Fishburn, a junior political science major and daughter of Brian and Tawni Fishburn of Lakeland, Fla.; Jennifer Kirkpatrick, a junior primary education major and daughter of John and Lucy Kirkpatrick of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Erin Smith, a junior biology major and daughter of Kenneth and Saralyn Smith of Lakeland, Fla.
The Pat McFadden Female Scholar Athlete of the Year - Joan DeHaven, a senior biology major and daughter of Donald and Suzanne DeHaven of Dunedin, Fla.
The Pat McFadden Male Scholar Athlete of the Year - Pete Schiebel, a senior computer information systems major and son of Frederick and Donna Schiebel of Lakeland, Fla.
Florida Southern Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award - Kathryn Elizabeth Paight, a senior financial management major. She is the daughter of Donald and Nina Paight of Ft. Myers, Fla.
Student Volunteer of the Year Award - Bryan Munson, a senior communication major. He is the son of Wayne and Kathleen Munson of Goshen, N.Y.
John R. Reuter Art Award - Brittany Melson, a senior English major. She is the daughter of William and Susan Melson of Lakeland, Fla.
Reuter Scholarships (9) - April Lee Avery, a junior sociology major and daughter of Lester and Mary Avery of Ft. Robert Lee Zimmerman Award for Excellence - Joy Beurrier, a senior English major. She is the daughter of Jim and Paulette Beurrier of Stuart, Fla.
Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Award (2) - Ivelisse De la Fe, a freshman music performance major and daughter of Luis De la Fe and Alicia Rodriguez of Costa Rica; and Christine Franklin, a freshman music performance major and daughter of James and Pamela Franklin of Stephens City, Va.
Omicron Delta Kappa Chandler Outstanding Sophomore Award - Amanda Stallard, a sophomore religion major. She is the daughter of David and Diane Stallard of Orange City, Fla.
Omicron Delta Kappa Burnette-Gilbert Outstanding Junior Award - Erin Lynn Smith, a junior biology major. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Saralyn Smith of Lakeland, Fla.
Omicron Delta Kappa Salutes (2) - Ja'ci Dene Quincy, a senior business administration sports management major and daughter of Darell Brown of Tampa, Fla. And Yvonne Brown of Riverview, Fla.; and Jeremy McKeen, a senior communication major and son of Robert and Esther McKeen of Barrington, N.H.
Agnes Johnson Rowe and The James C. Rogers Recognitions - Melissa Piloto, a senior elementary education major and daughter of Larry and Debra Piloto of Rotonda West, Fla. has won the Agnes Johnson Rowe award. Jeremiah Libby, a senior physical education major and son of Keith and Jeralyn Libby of St. Cloud, Fla. has won the James C. Rogers Recognition.
