Announcements:
Spring Break is Here - Residence Halls close today at 5 pm and reopen on
Sunday, March 3rd at noon. All FSC offices will be open during the
break. Classes resume on the 4th.
B courses –
Has your student signed up for a B course? Are they interested in a B course?
ThereÕs still time. Registration can be done through the RegistrarÕs Office. B
courses begin upon return from Spring Break.
Group Advising - Group Advising takes place Wednesday,
March 6, 10:40 a.m. in numerous campus locations (look for posters on campus).
This is a meeting where your student will learn important information about his/her
academic department, the experiences of his/her peers, and other important
information to help enhance the FSC experience. Your student will also schedule
an individual advising appointment at this session. To help speed your process,
be sure your student has cleared any holds on his/her account- business and
accountability. Check the portal for information.
Academic Reminders (always good to know):
į Tutor Tables and PASS sessions return following Spring Break.
Schedule of Upcoming
Events:
SPRING BREAK
begins at 5 p.m. Friday.
First-Year Advice:
Spring break is here and
students are happy to have a much needed break before finishing the second half
of the semester. Mid-term grades will be posted soon for 1000 and 2000 level
courses, so this is also a time to receive formal grade feedback. If your student
is concerned about their progress in a course, please encourage them to speak
to the professor as well as their academic advisor. At the Student Solutions
Center, we are also available to discuss options and share academic resources.
In some cases a student may wish to add a B-term class. The B-term classes
begin the week after spring break. If your student is looking to add hours make
sure they stop by our office and speak to their advisor about this option.
Second-Year Insight:
As your son or daughter
anticipates registering for their junior year, it will be important to declare
a major if he or she has not done so. Why? The most important
reason to declare a major is to ensure on time graduation. Where can your
son or daughter turn to for help in deciding on a major? FSCÕs Career
Center! The Career Center is designed to assist students with a number of
tools to ensure success. An appointment can be made with the Career
Center to discuss taking a career assessment, researching majors and finding
career information. The Career Center can be reached at 863-680-4390.
From the FSC Counseling Center:
It AinÕt Over Ōtil itÕs
Over. Early in the term,
students often feel that thereÕs plenty of time and no hurry to write papers,
complete projects, and prepare for exams. Now, however, the end of the
semester is in sight and time begins to feel very, very short. Many
studentsÕ plans to study during spring break are like New YearÕs
resolutions: well-intentioned but overly optimistic. So they return
from break, take a good hard look at the work remaining (including the work
they didnÕt do over break), and the pressure begins to mount. Panicking
is common at this point. If your student is coming home, you can help him
or her avoid the post-break panic by asking if there is schoolwork that must be
done during break. If the answer is yes, help your student to leave time
for it. An over-planned break will result in something going undone and
itÕs likely to be the studies. If your student is not coming home,
possibly the best you can do is encourage good use of time and resources and
maybe a visit to the Counseling Center when classes resume. We can help
with time management, test anxiety, study techniques, self-care, stress
management, all the pressures of college life.
From the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center:
