First-Year Advice:
Fall semester registration
for current first-year students begins Thursday, March 25. Students with 1-29 earned hours may begin
registration at 7 a.m. and students with 0 earned hours may begin at noon. Please keep in mind current spring classes
are not considered earned hours until grades are posted at the end of the term. To assist with registration, staff members
from the Student Solutions Center will be in the Rinker Technology Center from
7 – 8 a.m. Our office will also
be open beginning at 7 a.m. Prior to
registration, students should check their Portal site to make sure they do not have any registration holds. If your
student is having any challenges, please encourage them to come to us for
assistance.
Second-Year Insight:
Community Living is offering
a unique experience to second-year students interested in a living-learning
environment committed to the development of success of sophomores.
Students will be housed in Dell Hall and will participate in activities,
events, and services exclusive to sophomores at FSC. Online application is due
Friday, March 29 by 5pm – students must indicate Second-Year Experiences
as their Òpreferred communityÓ.
From the FSC Counseling Center:
A Funny Thing Happened on
the Way to Graduation. Your kid
grew up. (Or at least made some major strides in that direction.)
Think back to when your son or daughter first left home for college and
remember the questions, concerns, and fears that accompanied that stage.
Remember, too, how most of those worries faded away as your student adjusted to
college life. Some turned out to be no big deal. Others never
materialized at all. Now, as your student graduates and takes on the new
role of young professional or grad student, many similar questions, concerns,
and fears may arise. This time, however, your child has a wealth of
successes to draw upon in dealing with these worries. Earning a college
degree means a student has acquired more than simply a mass of information
about various academic subjects. As a successful college student and
soon-to-be college graduate, your student has developed the ability to set big
goals and see them through to completion. Your student has learned to
effectively handle everyday stressors, prioritize responsibilities, and manage
conflicting claims on limited time. Maybe even more important, your student
has also learned how to get along with and find friends among people from
widely differing backgrounds, how to balance responsibilities with a social
life, and how to make a new place feel like home. As you celebrate
graduation together, it might be a good time to help your student recognize
these very significant accomplishments and see them as excellent preparations
for the next stage of life.
From the FSC Career Center:
Students are welcome to join
us for two networking seminars this week! This is an excellent opportunity to
prepare for the upcoming ÒMoctailsÓ

be in the Career Center on Tuesday, March 25 @ 4:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March
27 @ 10:45 a.m. Refreshments provided!

Final Thoughts – Some students are registering for classes for the Fall. Some
students have ordered their caps and gowns. ThereÕs a little bit of everything
happening right now at this time of the semester. Be prepared for the next few
weeks to fly by as your student enters the final stretch. Remember, a care
package is always enjoyed and appreciated – and usually shared with
others on your studentÕs hall.
All the best – Shari
