Campus Announcements:
Registration Ahead – Two
registration periods have taken place. Two more to go. If your student has 30
or more earned hours, Monday at 8 p.m. is the day and time he/she will register
on line. Coming up on Thursday, students with 1 or more earned hours can do web
registration beginning at 7 a.m. Students with 0 earned hours register Thursday
beginning at 12 noon. Helpful staff and delicious goodies will be available for
students registering at these times at the Rinker Technology Center (in case
they need a little help along the way).
Today is the Day – Today is the deadline for
your student to drop a course or courses with no academic penalty, meaning they
will only receive a W on his/her transcript. It requires signatures from the
professor or professors and the advisor and must be turned in to the RegistrarÕs
office, by this afternoon, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. You and your student need to be
aware that dropping a course may impact financial aid. Your student should
consult with his/her professor and advisor to determine if this is an
appropriate decision.
Convo – Your studentÕs last Convocation of the semester takes place this Wednesday,
Nov, 14, 10:40 a.m. Branscomb. Featured speaker is Mark Johnson, Chairman of
the Playing for Change Foundation. A
Grammy¨ Award-winning producer/engineer, Mark Johnson is the co-founder of
Playing For Change, which gained the publicÕs awareness in 2009 with a version
of the song ÒStand By MeÓ that accumulated over 30 million views on YouTube.
Through the inspiring Playing for Change global music videos, Johnson sparked a
worldwide movement aimed at breaking down social, economic, and political
barriers through music. Johnson is the founding Board Member of the Playing for
Change Foundation, a nonprofit organization which works to build music schools
for children around the world.

Peer Assisted
Study Sessions (PASS)
Think
"super group" learning! PASS is where students work together to
reinforce key concepts and develop effective study strategies. Whether you are
a top performer or could use some improvement, you will benefit from the skills
and understanding gained from attending PASS. The most obvious result of PASS
is that students who attend regularly consistently can earn a higher grade.
PASS is also a great way to network with other students in your course.

From
the FSC Counseling Center:
Best Laid Schemes. Sometimes plans go awry. Not because they werenÕt good plans but just because unexpected things happen and we must deal with them. I hope your student is having a successful semester in every way, doing well academically, making great friends, getting involved in all aspects of campus life. But if your studentÕs semester is not going quite so smoothly, what can you do? An essential first step is to help your student identify the reasons. If your student is struggling academically, for example, finding an effective solution depends on correctly diagnosing the cause of the struggle. Here are four possible causes for the same problem of poor academic performance:
Each of these scenarios requires a different solution.
Study skills training wonÕt help the overly-social student and career counseling
wonÕt address a learning disability. If you and your student have
pinpointed the problem, a good second step is to seek help from the appropriate
campus office or person. Whatever the problem, there are campus services
that can help. Encourage your student to visit the Counseling Center,
Student Solutions Center, Career Center, an academic advisor, the Center for
Student Involvement, Student Disability Services, Tutor Tables and labs, the
Life and Cultural Center, the ChaplainÕs office, or the Health Center.
WeÕre all here to assist your student. Encourage a visit soon.
Career
Center:
On Thursday, November 15th @ 3:00 p.m. in the Nursing Bldg. we have our third Career Spotlight Series event. We invite students to visit with alumni in the nursing field and learn how they got into their current position. Students can learn and network with these successful individuals. Refreshments provided!

the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center:
WhatÕs happening at the Wellness Center?
