Convo – Did your student make it to Convocation on Wednesday? If so, they heard Mark Johnson, Chairman of the Playing for Change Foundation. A Grammy® Award-winning producer/engineer, Mark Johnson is the co-founder of Playing For Change, which gained the public’s awareness in 2009 with a version of the song “Stand By Me” that accumulated over 30 million views on YouTube. Through the inspiring Playing for Change global music videos, Johnson sparked a worldwide movement aimed at breaking down social, economic, and political barriers through music. Johnson is the founding Board Member of the Playing for Change Foundation, a nonprofit organization which works to build music schools for children around the world. From the FSC Counseling Center:
Merry and Bright. Wait a minute! Let’s slow down. I know we’ve been seeing Christmas decorations in the stores since Labor Day but let’s just slow down and take a few deep breaths. Before the mad dash into finals, end-of-term parties and celebrations, and Christmas and New Year’s festivities, let’s stop and enjoy Thanksgiving and remember the reasons we’re thankful. Those reasons always come down to the special people in our lives, don’t they? The young may not yet realize it but “stuff” comes and goes. Possessions get used up or damaged or lost and, once they’re gone, we hardly remember them. But the important people, those who’ve touched our lives in important ways, are in our hearts forever. I hope each FSC family, yours and mine, will take time this Thanksgiving holiday to remember the special people who have enriched our lives—dear friends, kind neighbors, caring teachers, generous co-workers, and all the many others who have given us of their time, their efforts, and their love. I’m thankful for you and for your sons and daughters, the students you’ve entrusted to us. I wish you and yours a warm and happy Thanksgiving shared with those you love. (And then, when that’s done, we’ll have that mad dash.)
