last week for Tutor Tables)

Peer Assisted
Study Sessions (PASS)
Think
"super group" learning! PASS is where students work together to
reinforce key concepts and develop effective study strategies. Whether you are
a top performer or could use some improvement, you will benefit from the skills
and understanding gained from attending PASS. The most obvious result of PASS
is that students who attend regularly consistently can earn a higher grade.
PASS is also a great way to network with other students in your course.

Second-Year
Insight:
So close but still so much left to do. That may be how your student is feeling right now. Next week is the last week of classes and itŐs likely that your student has a handful of assignments all due in the next several days. As a second-year student they have been through this part of the semester before but each time the demands are a little different. Even if they have figured out how to balance it all, a little extra encouragement from home goes a long way. A note, a box of goodies or an extra phone call can give them the motivation to press on.
From
the FSC Counseling Center:
The Finals Frontier. I think the days between Thanksgiving and the end of the term are the fastest part of the academic year. It seems that we just get back from the holiday break, and, whoosh! finals are over, students are leaving, and itŐs graduation day! Even though the semester has just gone into warp drive, most students still have a fair amount of work to complete. They must write papers, complete projects, and take final exams. They also need to achieve acceptable grades on everything. For some students, this can feel almost overwhelming and, unfortunately, thereŐs no Scotty to beam them up. Here are a few ways you can help if your student is struggling to complete the semester:
DonŐt worry too much. It will all be over soon. If this is your studentŐs first semester, itŐs probably also one of the hardest because he or she has had to adjust to college life, make new friends, get used to living away from home, and be successful academically. Next semester is likely to feel more manageable. In any case, live long and prosper.
Career
Center:
ItŐs getting closer – the end of the semester! ItŐs time for students to use some of those great time management skills to get through everything that must be done this week. If your student needs a quiet spot to study, the GEICO Career Center library is open from 8-5 and they are welcome to come by and study. Any questions about their major, future plans, etc. we are here to assist. We are in the office M-F from 8-5 – we are in the first floor of Thrift across from the swimming pool or call us at 863-680-4390.

Final Thoughts – Oh my, talk about how time flies. Seems like
it was just a few weeks ago when we were talking about the first week of
classes and now the semester is nearing an end. This is a hectic time for your
student so offer support. Projects and papers are due, not to mention the
necessary preparation for final exams. At this point, your student should have
registered for classes for second semester. If not, encourage your student to
get any account holds cleared. ItŐs beginning to feel a lot like the close of
the semester.
All the best – Shari
