Breakout Sessions

We will have students broken up into 7 different groups going through these rotations throughout the day. Your sessions will likely not be in this order, and you will find out your rotation order when you arrive to Summer Advising Day.

Fall Class Advising & Scheduling Session
Led by a faculty advisor
Meet with an academic advisor for thirty minutes to review your Course Preference Form, discuss suggested classes for your fall semester, learn how to register for classes, and create your fall class schedule. You will leave this meeting with a printout of your fall class schedule.

Note: Due to limited faculty availability during the summer, your meeting will likely not be with your personal academic advisor. However, you will have a scheduled meeting with your personal academic advisor during Orientation in August and, if needed, you would have the opportunity to make changes to your class schedule at that time.

Learn about Orientation
Led by a student Orientation Leader
Meet student Orientation Leaders, review the dates of Orientation, learn how you will connect with students and faculty, go over activities and events during Orientation, how to use the Guidebook app, what to expect for move-in day, and get answers to common questions.

Academic Reality
Led by Dr. Mary Crowe, Associate Provost
Learn how your professors will empower you to be a successful and engaged college student. We will review tips and tricks for managing your college course load, who you can rely on for help, and how you will be held accountable for your own success.

Finalizing Enrollment
Led by Admissions Staff
Explore the FSC portal, an online resource to view all of your student information including, housing assignments, financial aid, class schedules and more. We will review the welcome guide, check items off your enrollment checklist, and help you learn how to prepare to move to campus in the fall.

Academic Resources
Led by Cara Cima, Director of Career Development
Hear about the resources outside of the classroom to help you be successful in college and prepare for the real world. We will discuss the FSC Career Center, Tutor Tables, Writing Lab, and other tools that will help you be a marketable graduate at the end of your time at FSC.

Get your FSC Student ID
Led by Admissions Staff
Take your headshot and create your student ID card. Once you obtain your ID card, we will review how and where to use your student ID card, on and off campus.

Student Life & Involvement
Led by Bill Langston, Dean of Student Development
Play a fun game of jeopardy to learn about student life and involvement opportunities. You will get to know and make friends with other incoming freshman.
