Lamar Louise Curry Education Center

The Lamar Louise Curry Education Center opened in February 2020 adjacent to the Roberts Academy. The center, alongside the Carol Jenkins Barnett Early Childhood Education Building, provides a space for ongoing collaboration between all education programs at the College. The center is named in honor of alumna Lamar Louise Curry (Class of 1927), a long-time Florida educator in U.S. History who passed away in 2012 at the age of 105.
Lamar Louise Curry was born in Key West, Florida on December 11, 1906, and died on December 3, 2012. She graduated from Florida Southern College in 1927 and began her teaching career right away. She taught social studies at Miami High School for 32 years. One of her students was future Florida governor Bob Graham. Curry never married or had children. She was a privileged only child, selling her father’s holdings in South Florida real estate to make a fortune. Her life was lived in luxury, and she was a generous philanthropist. She made donations to her church, Florida Southern College, and the College of the Ozarks. In 2020, the newly opened education center was named in her honor.
