Purpose and Scope

Branscomb Memorial Auditorium is a major performance venue located within the Robert A. Davis Performing Arts Center. The facility supports educational, cultural, artistic, ceremonial, and community events sponsored by the College and approved external organizations.

Historical Preservation

The auditorium is part of Florida Southern College's historic campus environment and was designed by architect Nils Schweitzer to complement Frank Lloyd Wright's "Child of the Sun" campus concept. Construction was completed in 1963, and the facility opened in 1964.

Because of its architectural significance, users are expected to avoid any activity that could damage the building, finishes, seating, stage, or surrounding campus features.

Administrative Oversight

Branscomb Auditorium is administered through Florida Southern College's Arts and Business Operations Offices. Event coordination and bookings are handled through the Branscomb Auditorium Operations Manager. Ticketing for FSC events is handled through the Box Office, and contracted external clients manage their own ticketing.

Authorized Uses

Scheduling and Reservations

Use of the facility requires advance scheduling through the College administrative channels. External organizations should contact the designated College event staff regarding availability, technical requirements, fees, insurance, and contractual conditions.

Audience Conduct

Patrons are expected to:

  • Follow all directions from ushers, box office staff, and event personnel.
  • Remain in ticketed or assigned seating areas unless directed otherwise.
  • Maintain behavior appropriate for an educational and cultural venue.
  • Comply with emergency and safety instructions.

Food and Beverage Restrictions

Outside food and drinks are not permitted inside the auditorium. This restriction helps protect seating, carpeting, stage equipment, and the historic facility.

Photography and Recording

Cameras and unauthorized recording devices are not allowed unless specifically approved for a particular event. Event organizers may establish additional restrictions regarding livestreaming, audio recording, or professional photography.

Smoking and Tobacco Use

Smoking is prohibited within the auditorium. Users should also comply with any broader campus tobacco or smoking regulations that may be in effect.

Accessibility

Patrons requiring accessible seating may request accommodations through event or box office staff. Accessible entry and seating arrangements are provided in accordance with venue operations.

Parking and Guest Access

Visitors can access the auditorium from 1100 Johnson Avenue and surrounding campus roads. Parking is available near the auditorium, including areas north of the facility. Guests should follow event-specific parking instructions when provided.

Event Operations and Technical Requirements

External event organizers may be required to provide or coordinate:

  • Stage management
  • Lighting and sound personnel
  • Security staffing
  • Insurance documentation
  • Equipment load-in and load-out schedules
  • Compliance with campus safety procedures

Technical details and production requirements should be confirmed directly with College event staff before finalizing an event agreement.

Protection of College Property

Users should not:

  • Affix materials to walls, seating, or architectural surfaces without approval.
  • Move fixed seating or installed equipment.
  • Bring hazardous materials into the facility.
  • Obstruct aisles, exits, or fire-safety equipment.
  • Cause damage to the stage, backstage areas, or campus grounds.

Organizations may be held financially responsible for damage resulting from their event activities.

Emergency Procedures

During an emergency, patrons should:

  • Follow instructions from auditorium staff and campus safety personnel.
  • Exit through designated routes.
  • Avoid blocking aisles and doorways.
  • Proceed to designated assembly areas if directed.
