Parking Regulations

Bringing a vehicle to campus? Here's how to register it, what a permit costs, where to park, and how the rules work. All students, faculty, and staff who operate a vehicle on campus must register it with Campus Safety within 24 hours.

Register Your Vehicle

Any vehicle that requires a driver's license and state registration counts as a motor vehicle, including rental, loaner, and family vehicles. To park on campus, file a vehicle registration application with the Safety Office and agree to follow the parking regulations.

Permit Costs

Permits are valid for one academic year (September 1 through August 31), regardless of when you buy. Only the fee is prorated by time of purchase. A permit is registered to one person and is not transferable.

Standard permits:

  • Daytime Commuter Students, $90
  • Adult, Graduate, and Doctoral Students, $40
  • On-Campus Residential Students, $120

Off-campus residential students (Garden Apartments, Colony Arms, Lake Hollingsworth Apartments, Lake Morton Villas, Ledger Apartments, Mississippi Apartments, and other student houses) choose between two options:

Option 1, $60. You agree not to drive to campus between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. A vehicle found on campus during those hours (excluding holidays and breaks) is fined $100, billed directly to your student account with no appeal. Three such violations in a semester means your vehicle is towed at your expense and you lose parking privileges. This lower rate is meant to encourage walking, biking, or the shuttle.

Option 2, $250. Park on campus anytime, except during special-event restrictions.

Where to Park and When

Reserved parking is in effect 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; designated parking is in effect 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise posted. The speed limit in all campus lots is 10 mph.

A few essentials:

  • Finding a legal space is your responsibility; a lack of convenient spaces is not an excuse for a violation.
  • Park within the lines, in marked spaces only.
  • Visitor and reserved spaces are off-limits to students and staff.
  • Accessible (handicapped) spaces are enforced under both Safety and Security rules and Florida state law.
  • Report any accident involving your vehicle on campus to the Safety Office within 24 hours.

No-parking areas include: fire lanes and striped areas, lawn areas, yellow-painted curbs, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, in front of movable barriers, the College Terrace/Bookstore/Post Office/Buckner Theater loading-dock driveways, and any posted restriction.

To dispute a ticket, come to the Safety Office in person and complete the appeal form before the violation's due date. If you don't appeal by the due date, the violation stands and the fine is billed to your student account.

Parking at Your Own Risk Florida Southern College does not assume any liability for the care or protection of any vehicle or its contents while parked on campus. Always lock your vehicle when it's left unattended.

Violations and Fines

Violation Amount
Improper Parking $25.00
No parking area $25.00
Failure to properly display permit $25.00
Overtime parking $50.00
Parking/driving on grass or cultivation $40.00
Parking/obstruction sidewalk $25.00
Moving a parking or traffic device $25.00
Parking in/or obstructing fire lane $50.00
Parking in reserved space for faculty, staff, employee, or visitor $50.00
Failure to register vehicle $50.00
Parking in Handicapped space $100.00

Each semester, fines double on a third and subsequent violation.

Loss of privileges: Parking privileges may be revoked for, among other things, six tickets in a semester; reckless driving, speeding, or DUI on campus; refusing to pay fines; falsifying a registration; or alcohol/drug violations in a vehicle on campus. If privileges are revoked, the vehicle must be removed from campus.

Appeal of Traffic Violation Noticies

To dispute the validity of an issued Florida Southern College Violation Notice (ticket), the recipient must appear in person at the Safety Office and complete the appropriate form. This must be filed prior to the date the violation notice is due. If an appeal is not filed as stated, the violation is considered valid and the fine will be assessed to the permit holder’s student account in the Business Office.

The appellant will be contacted regarding the outcome of the appeal. As stated on the appeal form, all decisions are final. An appeal granted in the appellant’s favor does not constitute permission to continue to violate the same regulation or continue to park in the same manner. A granted appeal simply means that leniency was afforded for chargeable fines..
