First-Year Admission Requirements

Mocs are ambitious and involved, engaging in rigorous coursework, arts, and sports. They love being part of a community and aim to make an impact on the world.

What We Look For

At Florida Southern, our mission is to equip students to lead lives of positive and consequential impact.

In that spirit, we read every application holistically, looking at the whole person behind the grades. We're not just admitting students. We're welcoming future Mocs who will shape our community and carry the FSC experience into the world.

Here's what stands out to us:

Commitment

Your sustained effort, whether in academics, the arts, athletics, or another passion, shows the focus and follow-through we value.

Academics

Most admitted students bring a strong academic record built on a challenging curriculum. While we read every application holistically, the middle 50% of admitted students typically have a 3.4 to 4.1 GPA, and among those who report test scores, the ranges are 1170 to 1320 on the SAT and 24 to 30 on the ACT.

Character

Curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine eagerness to grow tell us you'll thrive in and contribute to our community of scholars.

Involvement

Leadership and service outside the classroom show us how you'll make a difference on campus and beyond.

Supporting Materials

To help us see the full picture of who you are, submit the materials below. Each one adds a piece that grades and scores alone can't capture.

Your transcript tells the story of your academic journey, the courses you've challenged yourself with and how you've performed. Request it from your school as early as possible to avoid last-minute delays. If you've taken college or dual-enrollment courses, send an official transcript from each institution as well.

Submit a recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or another academic reference who knows you well and can speak to your strengths, work ethic, and character. Whether they write a letter or complete FSC's Recommendation Form, their perspective adds a dimension beyond grades and scores.

This is your chance to tell your story in your own voice. A thoughtful personal statement helps us understand who you are, what drives you, and what you'll bring to campus. When you apply through FSC's Preferred Application, you'll choose one of these prompts:

  • Pick a quote that describes a lot about you and explain why you connect with it.
  • A range of interests and perspectives adds much to a college community. Given your background, what experiences do you bring to Florida Southern that will add to the college environment?
  • Describe an experience that has affected you in a profound way. How has this experience helped to define your decision to further your education at Florida Southern College?

There’s no perfect prompt. Choose the one that inspires you most. We’re not looking for perfection; we want to hear your voice and better understand what makes you, you.

Florida Southern is test-optional. If you'd rather not submit scores, you'll receive full consideration for admission and scholarships, with added weight on your academic record, curriculum rigor, and involvement.

If you do submit, we use your scores alongside your high school performance as part of our holistic review. Florida Southern accepts the SAT, ACT, and CLT, and doesn't favor one over another.

Superscore note. Florida Southern no longer includes the ACT Science subsection when calculating ACT superscores for admission. Our ACT superscore includes only the English, Mathematics, and Reading subsections. We strongly encourage Florida students to keep taking the Science subsection if they hope to qualify for the Bright Futures Scholarship, which still requires it.

FSC Codes: SAT 5218 • ACT 0732

Tell us what you've been up to outside class, activities, leadership roles, community service, and any honors or awards you've earned. This helps us see how you spend your time and where you make an impact.

Florida Southern College evaluates homeschooled students based on the strength of their application, essay, high school curriculum, and GPA, just like all other first-year applicants.

Required Materials:

  • Completed application
  • Official high school transcript

Plus one of the following:

  • Official SAT, ACT, or CLT scores
  • Official college transcript demonstrating a minimum of 12 transferable college credit hours (earned or in-progress through dual enrollment)

The admissions committee also considers extracurricular involvement and personal achievements. We encourage homeschool applicants to highlight work experience, volunteer service, and other activities.
